Chef and Partner Joseph “JJ” Johnson is a James Beard-nominated chef best known for his Pan-African culinary style. Inspired by the Caribbean flavors he grew up with and global tastes acquired from travels, Chef JJ transforms simple cuisine with bold flavors and unexpected ingredients. Through his restaurant group Ingrained Hospitality Concepts, he is a partner at Henry in NoMad as well as FIELDTRIP, his rice concept opening in fall of 2018 in Harlem. Chef JJ is a member of BuzzFeed’s Tasty Talent program, starring in Tasty original videos across multiple social media platforms. Chef JJ delighted New Yorkers with a four-month residency at Chefs Club in Nolita in the fall of 2017, after which he published his first cookbook, “Between Harlem and Heaven”. For many years Chef JJ was the executive chef at The Cecil and Minton’s, two historic spaces in Harlem, and prior to that, he honed his skills at Centro Vinoteca, Jane, and Tribeca Grill among other celebrated New York restaurants. Chef JJ is a member of the James Beard Foundation Impact Advisory Committee to establish a more sustainable food system through education, advocacy and thought leadership. @chefjj
